The Top 3 Tricks To Pinterest Success

The Top 3 Tricks To Pinterest Success

Ok, I admit it. This is a little click-batey. The trick to Pinterest success, is there isn’t a trick. It’s like most things in life. You have to show up and do the work. There is no “get rich quick” scheme or “lose ten pounds in three days” diet for Pinterest. Just like those are probably too good to be true, so are any tricks to Pinterest success. Yes, like all social media and search, there is an algorithm. And, like all social media and search, we don’t know exactly how it works.

But, we do know a few things. We know that Pinterest wants you to show up. Show up and share, show up and re-pin, show up and engage. And that is about it. If you show up on Pinterest, you will have success on Pinterest. Show up and have a little patience. Pinterest is not a “pin one thing and go viral tomorrow” type of place.

Obviously, there is some strategy. I go into that in quite a few posts. You want to stay on brand, you want to create Pinterest preferred images, and you want to time it to when your audience is most engaged. But, mostly, you want to show up. And keep showing up. For months. I recommend committing to your Pinterest plan for at least three months before even beginning to make a decision on how it is working for you. Six months is ideal.

So, here are my top 3 “tricks” to Pinterest success:

1.     Content.

Pinterest is all about content. You know this, of course. If you are on Pinterest now, you are consuming the content. In order to have success on Pinterest, you need to also create content. And a lot of it. Pinterest loves users who create and share new content.

You want your site to be well represented. You want your pins to be Pinterest-worthy and engaging. And you want your blog to be Pinnable and pinned.

Create multiple pins for each blog post, product, or page on your site. Test what works and keep doing that.

If you are a new blogger, and don’t have much of your own content to share, don’t worry. You will get there in time. In the meantime, take a look at my second trick to Pinterest success…

2. Curation

Pin other people’s content. Determine what type of information and content your audience might resonate with. What will add value to their lives that also compliments your brand? Pin and repin that content. Find beautiful images online and in Pinterest that match your aesthetic and audience’s needs and pin away!

Many bloggers and brands have so much content that they don’t need to use curate any one else’s content. But most pinners don’t. Until you have enough content of your own to pin 20 or so pins a day, just use other people’s. Follow complimentary brands and blogs that you admire and pin their images. Try to stay on brand, but don’t worry about being precise.

Example, my client, Luna Sundara, sells palo santo smudge sticks. Smudging is often part of a ritual and is used to clean energy. I created a profile based on what the smudge stick user might also be interested in and what she might be trying to do when looking for smudge sticks. I imagined a young woman who wants to take time for herself, to feel more balanced and clear. She is creating a sacred space in her home for rituals, meditation, and energy work. She sets aside time for self-care and is interested in aromatherapy. Some of this is directly related to the brand. Much of it is complimentary.

Top Three Tricks To Pinterest Success: Curate

Think about your reader or customer holistically. Keep your ideal customer, reader, or client in mind and figure out what she needs and wants. What else are they interested in? What types of products or services are they also looking for? Is there anything that they need to use your product? What might inspire her? Pin that.

Remember, there is enough for all of us, so don’t worry about “competition.” Just pin and repin thinking about your audience and what they are looking for. And keep pinning…

Which leads me to my third “trick” to Pinterest Success:

3.     Consistency

Now that you’ve started pinning, don’t stop. You need to consistently pin every single day. Yes, every single day. If you pin every day, you will immediately see an increase in your impressions. While this is a metric that I don’t recommend you focus on, it is usually the first one that you’ll see increase (and can give you the motivational boost you need to keep pinning). Eventually, you’ll see an increase in traffic, and then in email subscribers, engagement, and sales. But, you have to keep at it.

Pinterest isn’t usually a place that a week’s worth of content can make a difference. Obviously, there are one-and-done success stories of viral pins. But, for the most part, you need to consistently pin, re-pin, and share content.

The trick to Pinterest success is there is no trick. Consistency, Curation, Content. That’s it.
