Three Things You Must Know For Pinterest Success

For many small business owners, bloggers, and content creators, Pinterest can feel overwhelming. Frequently, I hear “I just don’t understand it,” or “Pinterest is confusing.” And more frequently, “I just don’t have time to learn Pinterest.” And I understand that feeling. I’ve had it before.

But, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming, incomprehensible, confusing, or even all that time consuming. There are really only three things you must know for Pinterest success.

As I’ve mentioned before, there are no tricks or secrets to doing well on Pinterest. You just have to show up and be consistent (like almost everything else in life!). But there are ways to use the time you are there a little more strategically to get the most out of showing up.

If you are brand new to Pinterest (or new to Pinterest for business), there are three things you must know about Pinterest.

1. Pinterest is more search engine than social media.

Yes, I know it is often clumped into the same category as Facebook and Instagram, but Pinterest is not social media. Truly, Pinterest is a search engine. People go to Pinterest to find information and inspiration, from how to sew a scrunchie to designing a dream kitchen.

They are looking for specific, timely, and accurate information through images. When you are thinking about your Pinterest profile, ask yourself, what can I give my readers or clients? What are they thinking about and searching for when they want to find me?

2. Pinterest is where people go to learn what they need to be to be their future “best self.”

Pinterest is all about aspiration. Pinterest users are thinking about where they want to be in the next 30 minutes (quick, healthy dinner recipes) 30 days (Whole-30 meal plans), 1 year (best places to visit in South East Asia), or 5 years (how to save for retirement). They are thinking about their future selves and saving pins that will show them how to get there.

How does your brand help someone become their best self?

Find a way to be part of your customers’ or readers’ dreams and you are on your way to Pinterest success.

It doesn’t have to be a big dream. It can be as simple as helping them design a morning ritual or saving a few extra minutes each day. Be of value to your readers by giving them a way to be the person they want to be.

3. It isn’t as difficult as you might think.

Don’t let Pinterest overwhelm you. Yes, you need to be consistent. Yes, there are some best-practices. But, with a little time (Pinterest is not a quick-results platform) and patience along with consistency, a little planning, and a learn-as-you-go attitude, you can be successful on Pinterest.
